I Will Honour Christmas In My Heart

I will honour Christmas in my heart,
and try to keep it all the year.
I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future.
The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me.
I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!

WELCOME TO MY CHRISTMAS BLOG!!

WELCOME TO MY CHRISTMAS BLOG!!

Christmas is my favorite Holiday and my favorite time of year!

I go all out decorating our small townhouse for all Holidays but especially Christmas!

Every room in our home has a different Christmas Theme and Color Scheme!!

I prove that you do not have to live in a large home to have several Trees, over 20 in all shapes and sizes!!

The majority of my Christmas decorations are placed in the same spot every year and I know that this is not what most Decorator's care for but it is like seeing old friends again when I decorate each year for Christmas.......

I do try to add a few new things and change up things a bit but for the most part, these decorations are part of my Christmas traditions and I will not change them until I can no longer decorate like I do......

This blog is dedicated to All Things Christmas!!

A Bit of Christmas Crafting!!

Welcome to my Christmas Blog, A Debbie-Dabble Christmas!!
I am so happy that you decided to stop by my Christmas Blog....

In this post, I will be sharing some of the Christmas crafts I have been doing.....

I wanted to spruce up a bit the wreath that I had in the upstairs hall last year.....

So I wired together a white tinsel wreath and a white snow tipped wreath......
You can see the 2 different types of wreath better in this photo.....
I had 2 magnolia sprays that I decided to take apart......
I decorated the wreath with the pieces of the magnolia spray.......
A Santa Head........
And a few gold glittered pine cones.......

I hung it on the railing at the top of the stairs in place of garland wrapped around the top of the railing..............
I can still hold on to the railing while walking up and down the stairs......
And I will be adding a set of battery operated fairy lights to it.....

Did you ever have and idea or get inspiration for a project from something you saw somewhere like in a magazine or a catalog????

Several years ago and I do mean several years ago, I came across these pictures.....
I have had these saved on my lap top for so long that I can not even remember where I saw them.....

It might have been from Pier One or Pottery Barn????

As a crafter, I thought I could make those........But using what??????

Our family is not too big on dessert because usually we do not have any room for dessert BUT there is always room for ice cream and we buy a pack of those little ice cream Sundaes whenever we have a family dinner.....

Those little cups of ice cream come with these little wooden spoons.....
I started saving them with the idea of making either Christmas Trees or Angels using them and paper mache cones that I used to make Victorian style tussie mussies out of when I sold crafts at Craft Fairs.....

Over the years that I have been saving them, you can see how they went with smaller, cheaper ones....
Now that I am retired, I finally had time to play with this idea....

This is the first Tree that I made.....
I cut the wooden spoons using a good set of wire clippers and glued them to the cone......
The dilemma was how to finish the top until I looked at my inspiration photo and it looked like some sort of a rope was wrapped around the top.....

So that is what I did....
I then stained the wooden spoons and after it dried.....
After the stain dried, I applied Snow Tex to the cracks between the spoons and covered the rope on top..........
Then I cut apart a mini garland that I had used to decorate my Victorian doll house, cut it apartand  glued the tufts of greenery to the Tree.....
So this is my natural looking wooden spoon Tree.......
I will admit that it was a bit labor intensive so I decided that I would do something different for the next one I made.....
I went through the same process but painted the Tree once the wooden spoons were glued on.....
Then I painted the tips white and before it dried, I sprinkled some white glittered crystals over it creating a snow and ice effect.....
I used the rope to finish off the top and glued a snowflake on as a topper...

Here it is on the Craft Room......
I plan on attempting to make a angel or two using these wooden spoons and things that I have in my stash......

Last Winter , I finished something that I started close to 40 years ago.......
Yep!!
I bought this stamped cross stitch table topper close to 40 years ago and just finished it a few months ago....
What can I say???
I work at the speed of light!!

Lol!!
I will probably use this in the Living Room......

I also finished these embroidery projects, which were also close to 40 years old, while I was recuperating from my knee surgery ....
I was considering framing them .......
Or making them into little pillows.....
I decided to go the pillow route......
I looked through my stash of fabric and found this red fabric.....
I sewed it to the embroidered pieces and made these......
Speaking of fabric in my stash, I found a piece of fabric with what looked like a vintage Christmas pattern on it to me.....

I believe I bought it at an estate sale and I think that someone had used it as a table cloth as there was seam binding sewn across the cut edges of the fabric.......

I thought that it would be perfect for what I wanted to do with it.....

In the Fall, I used left over fabric from another project to make a curtain for this area of our counter bar in the Kitchen.....
To cover a very utilitarian area of the counter bar......

I still had enough fabric left to make this 2 sided valance for this entry way into the Kitchen.....
I really liked how it looked during the Fall.......

I made another curtain out of the vintage looking Christmas fabric for the counter bar......
I used the seam binding that was already sewn on it as the hem....
And another 2 sided valance for the entry way between the hall and the Kitchen.....
How it looks from the hall.......
And I even had enough left to make another valance......

So I did some re-thinking about how I decorate the Kitchen for Christmas and thought it as time for a bit of a change.....

For many years, one of the signature decorations in my Kitchen has been this pass through to the Den created by taking the Kitchen window out when we made the patio into the Den.....
I have hung lighted garland with candy ornaments on it here for many years now......

Time to change this area......
Sneak Peek......
Still not finished with this area ......

And even though this is really not a craft, I wanted to share what I did in the front of our house, getting ready to decorate for Christmas and Winter.....

My annuals finally bit the dust with the first frost of the Season last weekend which is a bit late for us here in NEPA.....
Joe went into the woods by our house to cut some evergreen branches for me.....
I then filled the urns......
  And planters.....
And a vintage watering can with the greenery....
They will freeze in place as the temps. drop and will hold up for the remainder of the Winter.....

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the Christmas crafts that I have been working on.....

I am also reworking the wreaths that I hang on the front windows of our house and I have a few more projects in mind that I hope to do through out the Season but for now, I am focused on decorating the downstairs for Christmas....

The Kitchen is almost done.....

2 Trees are done and decorated......
In my last post, I shared some of the new things that I have bought for Christmas.....
Click HERE if you missed it....

Joe can't help himself and bought these cute towels at Wegman;s......
I did not yell at him......

We are supposed to have our first snowflakes of the Season with maybe an inch of snow which is a bit late for us as this usually happens in October here.....
And a blast of cold air is coming with it.......

So I thought it was the perfect time to make a pot of chicken soup.....
And the kids will be coming to pick up their Take Home Containers!!

In my next post, I will be starting my Christmas Home Tour for 2019.....

So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

  1. Well! I would say that's more than just a bit of Christmas crafting!! Fabulous one and all. The spoon trees are very clever, but my favorite piece is the 40 year old cross stitch. I love that you never gave up on it! What a treasure!

  4. Hi Debbie. You have been a busy crafter for sure! The first wreath shown is very lovely, indeed. Oh, I LOVE the idea of filling the urns with greens, and the window boxes, too. Think I will do that, too. Thank you so much for that idea! I hope you have a blessed and happy holiday season from now, through Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Are you going to post on Nelson's Crest all decorated for Christmas, too? Susan
